it's the money, honey: my 2015 new year's resolutions

Well, guys, we made it…2015 is here and with that comes new resolutions.  Many people think of them as only a way to disappoint yourself (how many years have I wanted to do a triathlon and failed to do so? Oh yeah, 5.), but I am a big believer in setting goals.  So, I’ve decided to let you all get a little peek into my life and see what I’m pledging to do in the new year.  Prayers that I actually get all of these accomplished are much appreciated.

  1. Build a Revenue Stream from My Blog

This is the year I’ve vowed to make my blog my main focus.  Now that I no longer have a website that looks like a kindergartener threw up a rainbow all over it, I feel like I can really start to promote the content I’ve been posting.  In that same respect, I do spend A LOT of time on it, and it would be nice to be compensated somewhat for all the hours I put into it.  Therefore, I’ve set a specific amount of side income I’d like to be earning per month by year’s end (trust me, it’s a low threshold), and I’m going to be pouring all my blood, sweat, and tears into “Britt & the Benjamins” until I achieve it.  Any help to do this would be much appreciated, so if you really like a post, I encourage you to share it or leave a comment.  Muchas Gracias!

  2. Workout in the AM 1-2 days a week

I am currently part of the after-work gym crowd, and when I say crowd, I mean it.  It’s a hassle trying to get a workout finished in a decent amount of time when you’re constantly waiting for someone to get done with the equipment you want to use.  On top of that, by the time I get home from the gym in the evenings, shower, and make/eat supper, I’m absolutely exhausted – meaning I have little motivation to work on anything else (i.e. my blog).  Thus, I’m going to try to wake up early 1-2 mornings a week and get to the gym before work, when it’s significantly less packed.  Wish me luck because it’s going to be hard getting out from under those bed sheets at 5 am. Oy vey.

  3. Save 25% of My Income

Yep, a whopping 25%.  Why so much?  Well, for one, my car is getting to the end of its road, and I want to pay cash for any new car (or new to me – hello, used vehicles!) that I purchase – that way I save in interest, and many times you can get a better deal if you pay cash up front.  Secondly, I also desperately need a kitchen remodel.  I have mismatched painted walls, cabinets that look like someone found them on the side of the road on trash pick-up day, and appliances that are beginning to show signs of age (i.e. a refrigerator with an ice maker that cannot make ice and an oven that sometimes smokes when you bake something).  So saving that much is almost a must in my books – another reason to focus on my first resolution ;)

  4. Develop 1-2 profitability projects at work

This is all about increasing my value at my job.  Right now, my main function is in financial reporting, and while I love it, I want to do something that sets me apart from the crowd.  Thus, I’ve added this to my list, and hope to develop some type of project that will either increase revenue or decrease expenses at my company and, in the process, show I'm a true asset. Here goes nothing…

  5. One new restaurant every month

This has nothing to do with my career or my finances. I just simply want to try a new restaurant in Indy every month.   That’s it.  Plain and simple.  Anybody got suggestions?

There you have it, folks:  my top 5 resolutions for my 29th year.  Feel free to share your thoughts on mine or let me know the resolutions you made for 2015.  It’s a proven fact:  if you put them out onto the world wide web, you have to keep them, right?
